Buggy Cupcakes!

Author: Angel

For my sister’s baby shower last Saturday, I baked a selection of cupcakes to match the party theme and colour scheme- green, blue and bugs!

Here’s one of the cupcake stands from the party full of cupcakes! There was a selection of chocolate, vanilla and red velvet cupcakes for the baby shower guests.

The chocolate cupcakes are decorated with green vanilla butter icing and little sugar paste ladybirds, bees, worms and dragonflies!

The vanilla cupcakes are topped with blue vanilla butter icing and decorated with little sugar paste baby feet, and they’re packaged in my newest discovery – paper cupcake cups with see-thru plastic domes! They make for really awesome party favours!

A Rainbow Cake!!!

Author: Angel

This past Saturday was my youngest sister’s baby shower, and my sister and my mom and I had so much fun organising and setting up and such! And I thought a rainbow cake would be a perfect colourful ending to the day’s procedures. The cake took quite some time to prepare as each layer has to be coloured and baked seperately, and then they all have to cool before they can be stacked. I sandwiched the layers with strawberry and apricot jam, which perfectly tempered the sweetness of the cake and the icing on the outside. I have a wire cake cutter with which I can level the rounded tops of my baked cakes and this is very important when you want to stack them. This cake is a rather tall 16cm (an average 2 layer cake is about 10cm), not counting the height of the babies on top!

Do you remember the sugar paste babies I made? They were for my sister’s rainbow cake! I made a snail baby as well and this is what it looked like before it was cut.

And this is what it looked like inside! All the colours are represented- red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet!

And this is what a slice looked like!

My baybee bumblebee now has a baybee bee to keep her company!

And in case you were wondering, the heads inside the “hoods”, the hands on the bee and the wings on both of them are moulded- the rest of the bodies are made with my own fingers! The faces I painted myself too, with the tiniest paintbrush you have ever seen! The proportions are a little off… but I think they’re cute.

A Bumblebee Baybee!

Author: Angel

This little sugar paste (or fondant) creation is 6cm tall from her bum to the top of her “feelers”!

Isn’t it cute!

I’ll be making more of these ‘coz there are so many possibilities! Bunnies, elves, fairies, cats… I can just imagine!
