Teacher! Teacher!

I just LOVE how this two-tier cake turned out with its bright colours!
The cake was a thank you gift to a school, ‘coz my customer’s children are all moving on to “big school”.

All the decorations are hand made, by me – story books, bookworm, apple, pencils,
and chalkboard (the school logo is an edible print)!

Now brace yourself…
The bottom tier is chocolate cake layered with caramel and chopped fudge,
and the top tier is vanilla cake layered with strawberry jam and chopped shortbread biscuits!

Flying Fish Eagle

Not the best picture of the cake as I finished it JUST in time
for my customer to come and pick it up!

Inside its vanilla cake and vanilla butter icing, and its covered with
individually cut sugar paste feathers!

My customer found this Bald Eagle cake on the interwebs,
and I asked the creators – Lushlooking Cakes of Oxfordshire
if they could help me do something similar.
They were wonderfully helpful!

Sugar in Wonderland

These sugar pieces were made to go on an Alice in Wonderland-themed cake (baked by someone else).
A bottle with a “drink me” label, a Cheshire cat smile, colourful toadstools,
and the white rabbit’s pocket watch.
There were three white roses too, painted in a few places with red “paint”.

I was especially pleased with the pocket watch!
Ages and ages ago, I saw a cake artist’s tutorial where she used
isomalt to make a “glass” face on a pocket watch
and I have been dying to try it myself and I finally had the chance!

The toadstools were so much fun to do!

Here Be Dragons!

I have done a few cakes for Theuns’s birthday celebrations,
and this year he wanted a black dragon with red eyes!
I absolutely LOVE dragons, and I have done several dragon-themed cakes over the years,
but this was the first one covered in scales!

I am super thrilled with how it turned out – especially since it took a whopping
ELEVEN HOURS to cover and decorate (not including baking and sculpting it)!

Inside its layers of my delectable chocolate cake and melt-in-the-mouth chocolate butter icing,
and the board is covered with gold painted sugar paste discs.
I added a few pearls and little white sugar bones to make it look more like a dragon’s hoard!

Minette was thrilled with the cake too, and happy customers is exactly why I love my job!
