Andrea ordered a cake and cupcakes from me for little Henry’s first birthday party and asked for a blue and brown colour scheme. The vanilla cupcakes with blue vanilla butter icing were made to accompany a cake…
This is a square, three layer, chocolate cake sandwiched and iced with chocolate ganache. I then covered it with white sugarpaste and decorated it with sugarpaste squares in shades of blue and brown.
Andrea asked for four sugarpaste bears to sit on top of the cake, and I made them in four different poses and four different shades of brown. Three of the bears are on the front of the cake and one is on the back behind the blocks.
The five toy blocks spelling out Henry’s name are decorated sugarpaste squares that I glued to squares of chocolate cake using cream cheese icing!
I am rather pleased with this cake, I hope Andrea and her loved ones enjoyed it!
This is a delectably delicious chocolate cake, filled and iced with chocolate ganache (which I must admit to eating the remainder of when I finished decorating the cake), and then covered in bright blue sugarpaste.
It was then decorated with pink sugarpaste ribbons and bows, and topped with a handmade sugarpaste ballerina bear.
This sugarpaste covered chocolate cake (filled and iced with chocolate ganache) with handmade sugarpaste bears and stars on top is my inbterpretation of a “Tatty Bear” theme.
I didn’t photograph her properly from the back so you can’t see her raincoat’s hood 🙁
she’s holding a baby powder container and draped in a white towel
The chocolate cupcakes for this baby shower were baked in silver paper cups, iced with pink vanilla butter icing and white vanilla butter icing, sprinkled with a little edible glitter and topped with layered sugarpaste hearts and flowers in pink and white.
I had a concept as soon as I heard about the competition. I wanted to do Santa on a tractor inner-tube in a pool with a beer in his hand, his clothes lying on the paving, a spike-collared Boerboel with a stocking in his mouth, a bag with gifts in lying abandoned on the grass- duties abandoned to an irresistible pool, he enjoys our South African sunshine!
But because I left it to the last minute I didn’t get it quite the way I wanted it and I had to adapt it a tad because I didn’t leave myself enough time…
Then I baked a chocolate cake, filled and covered it with ganache and then covered it with bright green sugarpaste “grass”. The Santa, the dog, the boots, the “stone” pool border, the gifts and Santa’s hat are all hand-sculpted sugarpaste. I wanted to do the pool water in piping gel but I didn’t get any in time so I had to make do with blue and white butter icing.
