These red velvet and vanilla marble cupcakes were topped with brightly-coloured,
handmade, sugar paste cupcake toppers – sugar paste domes with decorations,
completely covering the butter icing – little
teapots, toadstools, pocket watches, hearts, and top hats.
I also made several separate sugar pieces and cupcakes for this
Alice in Wonderland bridal shower – Mad Hatter top hats, a slightly crazy-looking mouse
that was to sit in a teacup, white rabbits in waistcoats diving down rabbit holes,
and Alice’s legs in the air with her petticoats billowing!
The cupcakes were Oreo (an Oreo in the bottom of a chocolate cupcake with
dark chocolate covered butter icing), and refreshingly lemony G&T cupcakes!
These sugar pieces were made to go on an Alice in Wonderland-themed cake (baked by someoneelse).
A bottle with a “drink me” label, a Cheshire cat smile, colourful toadstools,
and the white rabbit’s pocket watch.
There were three white roses too, painted in a few places with red “paint”.
I was especially pleased with the pocket watch!
Ages and ages ago, I saw a cake artist’s tutorial where she used
isomalt to make a “glass” face on a pocket watch
and I have been dying to try it myself and I finally had the chance!
I have done a few cakes for Theuns’s birthday celebrations,
and this year he wanted a black dragon with red eyes!
I absolutely LOVE dragons, and I have done several dragon-themed cakes over the years,
but this was the first one covered in scales!
I am super thrilled with how it turned out – especially since it took a whopping
ELEVEN HOURS to cover and decorate (not including baking and sculpting it)!
Inside its layers of my delectable chocolate cake and melt-in-the-mouth chocolate butter icing,
and the board is covered with gold painted sugar paste discs.
I added a few pearls and little white sugar bones to make it look more like a dragon’s hoard!
Minette was thrilled with the cake too, and happy customers is exactly why I love my job!
I can’t believe I never posted these on my blog, and I was so pleased with how they turned out!
The vanilla cupcakes in gold paper cups are topped with white vanilla butter icing, brightly coloured sprinkles, pearls, and flowers, and little gold unicorn horns and ears.
In fact, I was so pleased with the brightly coloured ones, that I did a pastel one too,
just so I could take a picture of it!
