This cake and cupcake order was for Desh and Niven’s baby shower – a red velvet cake with cream cheese icing, decorated with edible lace and my nursery-themed cake topper.
The entire cake topper is edible, and I made it on its own little cake board so it could be removed from the cake and kept.
The cupcakes for the shower were an assortment of some of my favourites!
The strawberry heaven is of course a fresh strawberry cupcake filled with a white chocolate and shortbread truffle topped with a strawberry cream cheese icing and shortbread crumbs.
The Oreo cupcake is a rich chocolate cupcake with an Oreo in the bottom, topped with vanilla butter icing that is then covered in a melted dark chocolate.
The vanilla cupcakes were topped with a blue and white two-tone vanilla butter icing swirl and the chocolate cupcakes were topped with chocolate butter icing, decorated with baby-themed sugar paste decorations.
Well, sort of good news and bad news.
The good news part is this – if you have had my S’mores or creme brulee cuppies before you are officially a part of a very select group of people.
The bad news is that they will no longer be available to order from me.
They are simply too much work for too little money!
Existing orders will be honoured of course, but quotes will have to be changed.
I heard about this here compo via Twitter, and then went looking for it!
I have been thinking about baking these particular cupcakes for ages, and the competition was the perfect occasion to test my idea. My knucklehead was kind enough to play cameraman whilst I was baking- and I don’t have any pictures of me actually baking the cupcakes- so thats different. And my fiancé photographed me with the finished cupcakes to send to Yuppiechef.
I used a red velvet recipe that I found- I’m still trying to replace the one I lost- which is divine and velvety, but not red! I iced it with pink and white two-tone butter icing to make it look like the softserve ice cream I grew up with, and then put in a flake to complete the look!!
You can see my entry and some comments on it on Yuppiechef’s website and on their Facebook page.
I’ll sell these for R20 each.
The most recent sample boxes had 3 cupcakes in, mostly chocolate- in the fancy green cup is a chocolate cake with a secret-centre, decorated with chocolate butter icing and little fondant flowers.
In the purple cup is a crème-caramel secret-centre chocolate cupcake with a chocolate ganache-type frosting and chopped nuts.
The other cupcake is supposed to be a red velvet cupcake, and its divinely velvety, but its not red at all. It has cream cheese icing on nonetheless, since it tastes divine in combination… and its not the red colouring that determines its taste. 🙂
If anyone can suggest a new name for the sample boxes I’d love to hear them!
So far, people have suggested “threesomes“, “nom nom boxes“, “addiction creators“, “tid bits“, “teasers“, “boxed orgasms” and “Introduction To Heaven“!
Red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing and sugar sprinkles, and chocolate secret-centre cupcakes with a chocolate ganache type icing and chopped nuts!
I tried a new recipe since the first red velvet recipe I used and loved went missing… and the new recipe isn’t red!!! Its divine, truly is velvety, but its not red. 🙁
