I had so much fun with this order for little Mira’s first birthday celebration!
The cake has a vanilla bottom tier and a chocolate top tier, both covered with pink sugar paste. The top tier has baby’s name on the front with little gold dragees as accent, and a brown sugar paste bow.
The bottom tier is quilted and the little brown pearls were piped on with royal icing.
The cake topper is a sugar paste teddy wearing pearls and a bow, holding a pink #1.
There were chocolate cupcakes in gold paper cups and vanilla cupcakes in pink paper cups, decorated with handmade sugar paste cupcakes toppers teddybear faces – with bows and pearls.
There were also teddy-shaped cookies, decorated in pink, brown and white royal icing!
Mira’s mommy had a pink and brown tulle tutu made to go around the base of the cake, and the birthday girl had a matching tutu to wear for her party! 🙂 I got this picture from Nadine of the cake with its tutu!

Thandi ordered a very special birthday cake for her friend – an active sportswoman who is also a “girly girl”.
The bottom square tier is my fabulous red velvet cake with cream cheese icing. I covered it with bright green sugar paste and decorated it with hand made sports equipment – tennis racket and balls, squash racket and balls, badminton racket and shuttlecocks, and a hockey stick and a ball, and a tiny pair of sneakers, all in white and gold.
The middle tier is chocolate cake, with chocolate butter icing. I covered it with a pink sugar paste and decorated it with white royal icing piping and sugar paste flowers, which “spilled” down onto the green tier.
The top tier is vanilla cake with white vanilla butter icing, covered in yellow sugar paste and decorated with a marbled blue sugar paste bow.
Our dear friends B and her SexyG got married, and we got to go to KZN for the weekend to share in their nuptials!!
The cake was a gift from us to them, and I decorated it with grey sugar paste hearts and some programming code piped in royal icing to compliment the couple’s passion and their business!
It was so much fun and it was SO special to be able to share their wedding day with them!
Out of curiosity, I Googled “blue iris flower” and I was simply astounded by how many different kinds of iris there are!
Anyhoodle, mine is faaar from realistic, 😛 but I am rather pleased with my first attempt nonetheless. Its a surprising amount of work to make one let me tell you! I will make it darker and frillier the next time I make one though.
Using royal icing, I made two open roses and a bud, rose leaves and some jasmine flowers and buds. I finished them with dusted colours and steaming, and then fashioned them into a type of corsage.
