My brother and his sweetheart are expecting a little girl in December, the first little girl in our family after my siblings and I all having boys – eight of them – and this weekend we had a shower for them.
Instead of buying them a gift for the shower, I made them a cake.
Everything on the cake is edible, including the sugar lace! The cot itself, the blankets, cushions, mat and teddy bear are all made of sugar paste.
I am thrilled with the end result! The edible lace worked perfectly as embellishments for the blanket and pillows, and I added pearls to the lace collars on the cake.
I ended up having to put last minute “feet” on the cot ’coz when I put it on the cake the first time it went through the sugar paste cover!
