Cupcakes In Boxes

This was a big order arranged by Campbell & Campbell
for Bigen Africa’s 30th anniversary.
The finished chocolate cupcakes in silver paper cups looked like this:

And then they were put into boxes-

I’ve done big orders before, but I thought I’d give you a little insight into the work flow for an order of over 250 cupcakes, like this one.

The red flowers with the white centres, the black organza ribbon and the flat-packed white boxes were all ordered a couple of weeks ago. Last week Tuesday I rolled out white fondant to cut the 300 odd white discs so that they could air dry. On Wednesday the black fondant “3”s and the black fondant “0”s were cut out and dusted to give them a bit of a shimmer, and then they had to dry. More than 250 of each number means its pretty much a full day’s operation of rolling fondant and cutting. On Thursday I cut the 1M lengths of organza ribbon as each box needs a metre of ribbon to go round it like a gift. On Friday, while I watched the royal nuptials on TV, I glued the black fondant number to form a “30” on the white fondant discs, and these then had to air dry. On Saturday my husband and I folded the flat-packed white cardboard boxes that each cupcake had to be packed into, and then I mixed up 9 litres of white vanilla butter icing. On Sunday and Monday I baked, iced, decorated (with glitter, the fondant “30” and a red fondant flower) and packaged the almost 300 cupcakes that were ordered, and with my husband’s help I tied a black organza ribbon around each box.

And there you have it.
Essentially a week’s work for me. 🙂
And here are the finished and be-ribboned boxes, awaiting delivery.

Vegas Themed Cupcakes

These Vegas themed cupcakes were ordered months ago by Leandi to celebrate her 21st birthday!

Half of her order is the ever decadent red velvet cupcakes and the other half is a very tasty surprise – and my own invention – red velvet and vanilla marble cupcakes!

The 3D toppers were made specially for Leandi by moi. The playing cards arranged in Black Jack pairs are printed on edible paper and mounted on fondant, and the dice are made of solid fondant and painted with edible paint!

Don’t you just love the red and white colour scheme!?

Cupcakes for a Silver Themed 21st Birthday

I am supremely flattered that Lani drove all the way from Rustenburg to fetch these cupcakes from me for her twenty first birthday party! She saw the ones I did last weekend and she just had to have the same cupcakes for her celebration!

These are melt-in-your-mouth vanilla cupcakes in silver paper cups with a variety of secret centres- fudge, creme caramels, coconut ice, malted biscuit balls and a berry nougat. I topped them with my delectable white vanilla butter icing and some edible glitter, a black fondant flower with a white centre, and a silver fondant “21” mounted upright on a white fondant disc. I added some small silver dragees for a little extra sparkle.

Twenty First Birthday Cupcakes

Elanie celebrated her 21st birthday this weekend with a double party! Her mom arranged the cupcake order with me in the weeks prior to the parties, to match the theme and Elanie’s taste.

On Saturday night she had a bash with her friends with a classy silver and white theme. For this party I made mouth watering vanilla cupcakes in silver paper cups with a variety of secret centres- fudge, creme caramels, coconut ice, malted biscuit balls and a berry nougat. I topped them with my delectable white vanilla butter icing and a little glitter, a black fondant flower with a white centre, and a silver fondant “21” mounted upright on a white fondant disc. I added some small silver dragees for some extra sparkle.

And for the first time, I made a cake for a customer! I have always baked my son’s birthday cakes, but I’ve never done one for someone else. This one is a vanilla sponge cake with a caramel filling and white vanilla butter icing covering it. I decorated with with the same black flowers as I used on the cupcakes and put Elanie’s name on top of the cake in silver fondant lettering mounted on white fondant.

On Sunday, Elanie celebrated with her family. The green and purple colour scheme was very striking, and after chatting to Elanie’s mom I mounted a green and purple “21” on green and purple fondant discs to stand upright on the cupcakes. Daleen, Elanie’s mom, asked for a multi-coloured flower garden using fondant daisies on top of alternating green and purple vanilla butter icing and provided the green and purple polkadot cupcake collars. These little beauties were also vanilla cupcakes with several different secret centres.

Happy birthday Elanie!
I hope your celebratory weekend was all you hoped it would be!
